I am with you now, I will protect you everywhere you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done everything that I have promised you.
Genesis 28:15

Lesson:

We are on a journey to be more like Jesus – seeking ways to love God, love neighbor, seek peace, and do justice. This week’s theme is about Being. In this moment, think about how difficult ‘being’ might be for many of our black and brown brothers and sisters… Now, listen for ways we can foster community where everyone can be and be together in grace, and in Christ.

I am with you. I will protect you. I will bring you. I will not leave you. This is one verse of Holy Scripture with four – count them – four promises from God to Jacob and his descendants, which include you and me as followers of Christ. I almost think that any one of these would be enough for me. If God tells me that, “I am with you,” then I’m happy with that! “God will protect me?” Yep. “I will bring you” here or there? OK. “I will not leave you.” Yes! This is the one I want to invite us to hold today. Sit alone for a bit, and think only on this thought: God will not leave us. No matter what we face – God will be with us. This is perhaps all of scripture wrapped up into one phrase. God is with you… Think on these things. David Burroughs

Prayer:

God, you are always with me and this is all that matters. In good days or bad, when I am on top of things or when I am feeling behind, in all my days – you are with me. In you I live and move and have my being. Thank you, God. Amen.
